Founded in 1946, as ANIMPEC (National Association of Leather and Leather Manufacturing Industry), it was the first trade association representing the Italian leather goods. In 1962 there were 15 companies associated, and the owners of seven of them, individually, became promoters of the first exhibition of leather goods in Italy, the MIPEL.
The decade ‘60s/’70s, firstly for ANIMPEC and then for AIMPES, was a period of tremendous commercial development that has resulted in a profound transformation of businesses in the organization of production and in the marketing process, both in domestic and foreign markets. The progress towards the industrial dimension was gradually and increasingly addressing the need to keep alive the attitude of the old aesthetic and creative crafts. The association name AIMPEC will be changed in 1966, into AIMPES (Italian Association of Manufacturing Leather and Substitutes).
Today, the Association is faced with the new challenges of the global market, trying to infuse a new culture in their own companies, in terms of approach to business problems, combining the traditional craft of skill and accuracy qith the constant ability to innovate in the production processes, increasing the importance of their role in the global market.
